Coty Van Lannen – Owner & Operator
Coty is the owner of VL Performance and opened his business in June of 2014. He is a Test Systems Engineer at Mercury Marine during the day, and at night he owns and operates a fully functioning Performance Shop. Some of the services here include but are not limited to: diagnostics, engine rebuilds, machining, maintenance, repair, and ECU tuning. In just a short amount of time, his company has blown up due to great management and economic decisions. Coty runs a Facebook page, an Instagram, and a bunch of stickers in order to advertise. However, his main form of marketing is the outcome of a car that a customer brings into the shop and leaves feeling more than satisfied with the work. He holds all of his employees to a very high standard and takes his own time to check their work to assure perfection. What better form of marketing than a friend of a friend recommending a performance shop with adequate pricing and high quality work? Coty takes his employees to events to get out and participate in local and not so local events. VL Performance has participated in drag racing in Kaukana, boasting that shiny VL sticker on the side of the Del Sol shop car. Coty and his team even traveled to Houghton, MI several weeks ago to watch a dirt rally. Here, he met and befriended Travis Pastrana and many other big names in the rally world. These people are racing Subaru, Mitsubishi, Ford, and other leading companies. In December 2016, they were headed to Indianapolis, Indiana for Performance Racing Industry, which is widely recognized as “The Voice of the Racing Marketplace.” From its inception in 1986, PERFORMANCE RACING INDUSTRY has served tens of thousands of racing entrepreneurs as their key source for industry trends, merchandising ideas, new products, business strategies and much, much more. He has turned Appleton’s car, drag, and truck community into a competitive and fun hobby to be in. He treats his employees well by keeping them busy with work, and when things slow down, he uses that time to clean, organize, and expand his shop space. You can read all about our team below!
